WARPCOM demonstrates a 20km long QKD link at Quantum Tech Days in Lisbon

Last week, our Iberian partner Warpcom organized the Quantum Tech Days in their premises to showcase to customers a QKD installation in Lisbon. They were joined by ID Quantique, Fortinet, Deloitte and IP Telecom.

Headquartered in Lisbon, Warpcom is an ICT provider focusing on the development of solutions in the areas of Networking & Infrastructure, Collaboration & Customer Experience, Data Center & Multi Cloud and Cybersecurity & Public Safety. To support customers in preparing for the quantum era, Warpcom has established a partnership with ID Quantique, to include in its offer the implementation of quantum encryption solutions, using quantum key generators.

The main objective of this offer is to ensure secure communication in terms of confidentiality, authenticity and integrity of the information transmitted between two points.

In an interview at the venue, Bruno Gonçalves of Warpcom said:

“Quantum safe solutions are the future of cybersecurity and an area in which Warpcom is heavily investing. Thus, to partner with a worldwide leader in quantum safe solutions with the know-how and experience of ID Quantique was a natural step to take”

For this special use case, Warpcom successfully demonstrated a combined solution of FortiGate IP Virtual Private Network (IP-VPN) service and IDQ’s new QKD Cerberis XG, using a standardized ETSI interface, to provide a Quantum-Safe IP encryption solution over a real deployment in Lisbon.

The demo which ran 20 km over a bridge using an IP Telecom fiber link, was shown to various customers (Banks, Government, Telcos, Defense) with great success and interest.

Warpcom is already developing some pilot projects with entities in the health, financial, government, military and internal security entities and plan to run such events in Spain shortly.
