SK Telecom unveils the Samsung Galaxy Quantum 5
ID Quantique (IDQ), the world leader in quantum-safe security solutions and SK Telecom, have worked together to release the ‘Galaxy Quantum 5’, the fifth generation of Samsung smartphone which combines quantum technology with Samsung Knox, Samsung’s powerful security platform.
Today’s digital activities – from mobile banking, personal health data recording and online purchases to professional applications and multifactor authentication – have turned mobile phones into a goldmine of financial, health, business and personal information, raising the need for security to the edge.
Like its predecessors, the Galaxy Quantum 5 includes quantum security features enabling smartphone users to benefit from a high level of security when using their mobile phone applications and services. This secure phone integrates the world’s smallest (width 2.5 x length 2.5mm) Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chipset designed by ID Quantique and Samsung’s powerful security platform, Samsung Knox, enabling trusted authentication and encryption of information, including data storage onto external memory.
As an example, when an application provides authentication services, sensitive data such as fingerprints and facial images must be protected. By generating unpredictable true random numbers, IDQ’s QRNG chip protects the process from log -in/ authentication /payment /unlock /OTP generation of service apps ranging from financial apps to social media apps and games offering powerful trust to the users.
The ‘Quantum Indicator’ notification feature on the status bar informs users that they are using quantum security services. This feature can be turned on or off, but the QRNG function remains active as a default system operation regardless of the indicator’s status.
The Galaxy Quantum 5 also integrates superior AI-device capabilities with the innovative ‘Circle to Search’ feature, Night Photography, and a larger display with a refined design.
“The Galaxy Quantum 5 is the latest in the Quantum series, now with premium performance and AI features, further enhancing its completeness. We aim to offer security and AI capabilities at a reasonable price through the Galaxy Quantum 5 and will continue our efforts to ensure our customers enjoy a convenient telecommunications experience.”
Yoo Chul-joon, head of SK Telecom’s Smart Device CT department
“Mobile phone users are more and more concerned that their data could get stolen. Our quantum chip provides powerful security for a large number of services used on the Galaxy Quantum 5, protecting customers most valuable information.”
