PacketLight implements IDQ’s QRNG in the PL-4000x product family and enhances the security offering to its customers
PacketLight Networks, a leading provider of DWDM and OTN equipment, chose IDQ’s QRNG (quantum random number generator) chip to enhance the encryption solution in the PL-4000x product line for high capacity 400G metro and 200G long haul applications.
The PL-4000x devices address customer needs for high-capacity data center interconnect networks with a complete security solution. The 400G Muxponder (PL-4000M) and 1.6T Transponder/Muxponder (PL-4000T) are 1U modular devices that integrate mux/demux, amplifiers, and optical switch, to cost-effectively deliver 400G capacity over a single wavelength. The devices aggregate any mix of 10/25/100/400Gb Ethernet, 16/32G Fibre Channel, and OTU2/2e/4 services into one 400G coherent uplink, and include embedded Layer-1 GCM-AES-256 encryption using elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman key exchange.
Adding IDQ’s QRNG chip, a hardware-based component for generating quantum encryption keys, offers customers an even higher level of security. IDQ’s QRNG chips generate provably unbiased and unpredictable randomness for the generation of the keys with high entropy from the very first bit, from the shot noise of a light source captured by a CMOS image sensor, a patented quantum technology from ID Quantique. The chip in PacketLight’s devices is simple, consumes minimal board space, and is power efficient.
Data security has become the most important aspect in data center connectivity over fiber and DWDM networks. Partnering with IDQ allows us to enhance our encryption solution, and comply with the FIPS and CC requirements for randomity of keys generation.
said Koby Reshef, CEO of PacketLight Networks.
We are delighted to see that PacketLight has made the move to incorporate this technology (QRNG) to better serve their end-customer and to bring security to a new level. Generating strong keys from a reliable entropy source is the cornerstone of any security system.
