Samsung Galaxy Quantum 5 smartphone

The Samsung Galaxy Quantum 5 is Samsung’s latest generation of quantum-secure mobile devices. It combines IDQ’s quantum technology with Samsung Knox, Samsung’s powerful security platform. It comes equipped with even more QRNG-based encryption applications and an innovative Quantum Indicator. Samsung will continue to expand its portfolio of quantum-secure applications to provide long-term peace of mind to customers.

What is the Samsung Galaxy Quantum 5?

The new Galaxy Quantum 5 integrates the world’s smallest (width 2.5mm x length 2.5mm) Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chipset designed by ID Quantique and Samsung’s powerful security platform, Samsung Knox, enabling trusted authentication and encryption of information, including data storage onto external memory.

In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Quantum 5 comes with a “quantum indicator” which informs users the application is using a quantum-secured service, like the in-app security for payment and other financial services. A message appears indicating that apps are being protected with QRNG technology. The QRNG function works even if the notification text is turned off.

When an app is saving the authentication information, such as fingerprints and facial images, the mobile phone is automatically secured by QRNG.
As an example, when an application provides authentication services, sensitive data such as fingerprints and facial images must be protected. Our QRNG embedded in this new smartphone can therefore be leveraged to generate encryption keys and, in conjunction with the keystore of the terminal, provide quantum enhanced security every time a user logs in to the app.

Apps to which QRNG is applied are continuously expanding to various service apps such as social media and games as well as financial apps like cards and bank payments. In addition, information stored in the external memory is encrypted through QRNG. And a ‘quantum indicator’ notification function is provided in the status bar (to show that the quantum security service is being used.)

The QRNG quantum chip delivers in-built security at the highest level. It protects a range of processes: log-in / authentication / payment / unlock / OTP generation, for applications as diverse as mobile banking, gaming and social media. The QRNG is also used to encrypt data stored in the external memory card, delivering a much higher level of trust for the user.

Mobile apps, ranging from mobile banking and credit cards to payments, social networks and games, can access the quantum security features of their service. Quantum security can also be applied to external data storage. This fourth generation quantum phone offers even more services using IDQ’s QRNG chip.

Quantum-enhanced security benefits us all

Since the launch of the first quantum-secured smartphone, the whole mobile ecosystem around it has thrived. In addition to obvious security enhancements and differentiation, the easy access and implementation of quantum security has empowered stakeholders to develop dedicated apps and services which created additional revenue. A strong innovation culture coupled with a security-first mindset has proven to increase users’ trust and loyalty.
